Incident Report – Core Network Device Outage Monday 4th August 2025 14:39:00

Summary:

A core network device in our production environment became unreachable between 14:25 and 14:31. The issue was promptly detected by our monitoring systems and investigated by our engineering team.

Cause:

The outage was the result of a configuration test where a BGP route was inadvertently advertised into the core network. This led to some traffic being blackholed for a brief period.

Resolution:

The incorrect route was quickly withdrawn and full connectivity was restored. Total outage duration was 6 minutes with monitoring showing the impact lasting 5 minutes and 34 seconds.

We are reviewing internal procedures to improve safeguards and prevent similar occurrences during configuration testing.
